2020-21 NPFL season kicks off

The 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season kicks off on Sunday with eight games set to be decided across eight centres.
Four-time champions, Kano Pillars will face Adamawa United at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.
Pillars will be looking to make a positive start to the season after they were eliminated from this season’s CAF Confederation Cup in the preliminary round by Senegalese club, ASC Diaraf.
Pillars striker, Nyima Nwagua is looking forward to Sunday’s game and insists a win on the road will represent an ideal start to the season for ‘Sai Masu Gida’.
“The manner in which we lost in the Confederation Cup still hurts but there is no point in complaining,” he told SPNAfricaNews. “We just have to pick ourselves up and focus on the league.
“That’s on way to return to the continent next season and a win in our first away game will be the best possible start.”
Katsina United and Heartland will meet at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina while Nasarawa United and Wikki Tourists go toe to toe at the Lafia City Stadium.
Another club that underwhelmed on the continent, Plateau United will kick off their season with a home fixture against Kwara United while Jigawa Golden Stars play host to Sunshine Stars at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
The ‘Nest Of Champions’ in Uyo is the venue for the day’s standout fixture as city rivals, Akwa United and Dakkada FC go toe to toe for a battle for points and bragging rights.
FC Ifeanyiubah will be looking to make a brisk start to the campaign when they take on Lobi Stars at the FC Ifeanyiubah Stadium in Ozubulu, Nnewi.
MFM will face Warri Wolves in Lagos while the country’s representatives still in the running in Inter CAF club competitions, Rivers United and Enyimba don’t play until Monday.
United face Enugu Rangers at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium while Enyimba take on Abia Warriors in the derby at the Enyimba International Stadium.
