The League Management Company (LMC) have announced that Abia Warriors will play its home games in the 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season in Aba.
The Warriors traditionally play their home games at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
However, the Stadium in Umuahia failed to meet requirements stipulated by the LMC and the Warriors had to choose an alternative venue for their league games.
The Enyimba International Stadium has now been selected and ratified by the LMC for use by the Warriors of the upcoming season.
Head coach of the Warriors, Imama Amapakabo is looking forward to the new season and says playing in Aba will not be a disadvantage.
“We are set for the season and playing in Aba doesn’t really change much for us,” Amapakabo told SPNAfricaNews. “Yes, Umuahia is our home and it’s always important to play in familiar surroundings but I’m not one to make excuses.
“The team is getting better with each passing day. We have participated in a few pre season tournaments and tune up games.
“My thinking is that we will be ready by the time the new season commences.”
Meanwhile, another NPFL club Jigawa Golden Stars will play its league games at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
This is because their traditional home ground the Dutse stadium is being refurbished.
