Amoo prefers Premier League move for Osimhen

Former Nigerian assistant coach, Fatai Amoo has said he would have loved to see the Nigerian and Lille FC goal king, Victor Osimhen continue his amazing football development in the English Premiership.

The Nigerian prodigy may be heading to Serie A side Napoli after it was reported that his French side, Lille, have agreed a transfer fee of around £80 million.

The reports said that current English Premier League champions, Liverpool had also shown interest in the lethal finisher.

Amoo said that without diminishing the importance of Lille, a stint at a Premier League side – more particularly a mid-table team – could do a great deal of good to a blooming football career.

“From my own perspective and given the fact that in recent time when it comes to racism in the game of soccer the players have not been positive over what we are hearing.

“Again we want to look at followership when it comes to the world soccer you are talking of Premiership, you are talking of LaLiga, the Italians are there, too but for me I’m not in a position to decide for him I would have love either Premiership or LaLiga.

“For me I would not love him to go to Liverpool, I would prefer a team he will be their main number one man.

“I’m not saying he cannot play there at Liverpool, age is on his side, if he is to join a team, let say for example, Wolves, maybe a team like Watford, Southampton, I want to believe where he will command regular shirt, will also help his game to develop and market value will soar higher. That’s the way I look at it, going to Liverpool, Arsenal, etc. I do not think it would be a good decision to have been taken. Going to a modest club side in the premiership I think will do him a lot of good,” said the former Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Sunshine Stars tactician.

Amoo said however that Osimhen could be an instant performer for Napoli.

“Well, simple and straightforward, I know him as highly dedicated, determined and committed player, I’m saying this because we have worked together in the U23 camp that makes me to know him.

“Barring any unforeseen circumstance the boy will push to do well and I pray he will do well because if he does well it will be a blessing to Nigerian footballers and to all of us not necessarily having any material gain but for our country and football.

“That will also make those people to think of getting more players maybe before they hit the limelight too because it will not have cost them much.

“So for me our boy, Victor Osimhen doing well will do a lot of good to himself and country,” said the former 3SC gaffer.

Osimhen is expected to make a decision on his future in the days ahead and is yet to rejoin his teammates in pre-season training ahead of the start of next season.
