Reports in Germany claim that Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with Julian Nagelsmann over the coaching position at the Bavarian club.
Hansi Flick is currently the head coach of Bayern but he has been widely expected to leave his role in the summer to replace Joachim Løw as Germany’s national team coach.
German media outlet Kicker reports that Nagelsmann is close to joining FC Bayern, with the 33-year-old reportedly asking the management of RB Leipzig to terminate his contract. RB Leipzig are demanding a fee of around 25 million euros from FC Bayern, in return.
Sources also told dpa that Leipzig would require a league record fee of 30 million euros (36.3 million dollars) for Nagelsmann who has a contract until 2023 and no buyout clause. Munich’s approach and the fee have also been mentioned in other German news reports.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge wants a speedy resolution to the matter and confirmed it had been agreed talks would take place this week.
Flick is a candidate to replace Germany coach Joachim Loew, who will leave his position this summer, after Euro 2020. Nagelsmann has said he hasn’t held talks with Bayern and that he wouldn’t “start a war with my employer.” But his statements didn’t dismiss speculation about a possible move to Munich.
Leipzig trail leaders Bayern by seven points, with three games remaining in the Bundesliga and Bayern close to a ninth straight title. Leipzig are in the German Cup semi-finals where they face Werder Bremen on Friday. The eastern Germans paid 5 million euros two years ago to bring Nagelsmann from Hoffenheim.
