Leon Goretzka has agreed terms to a new contract with Bayern Munich.
Goal and Spox have reported that the midfielder is set to end talks of a possible exit by signing a new long-term deal at Allainz Arena. The Germany international’s current contract is set to expire in 2022 and it was suggested that Manchester United were leading the race for his signature.
However, the former Schalke 04 man is set to remain in Bavaria with positive discussions over a new contract finalized. The Bundesliga giants have reportedly put everything in place for the 26-year-old to pen a new deal with some minor details set to be ironed out.
The deal — which will last until 2026 — is suggested to be worth between 12 million euros – 15 million euros a year as the German outfit had always been confident during contract talks.
However, they pointed out that they would not be forced to meet unthinkable demands made by players during contract discussions. Quizzed about the future of Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich earlier, club president Herbert Hainer straightened things out, saying:
“They will certainly not be kept at any cost.
“The players know what they have at Bayern, they are paid very well here too, everyone gets their salary and they can win titles with us now and also in the future.”
New coach at the German champions, Julian Nagelsmann, was also confident Goretzka would sign a new deal.
“Of course, I have talked to him about my plans for him. I have told him I’d be happy if he extended and I’m also confident.
“There are several topics involved when it comes to discussing a contract extension. I’ll continue to focus on the sports side of things and show him he can be one of the most dangerous midfielders in Europe. He has potential to get even better.”
