The 2020-21 German Bundesliga season is nearing a conclusion and the huge programme for matchday 30 sees eight games set to be decided on Tuesday and Wednesday.
FC Bayern München stretched their lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings after a hard fought 3-2 win at VfL Wolfsburg thanks to a brace from starlet Jamal Musiala.
The Bavarians will welcome sixth placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen to the Allianz Arena as they look to defend their title.
Hans-Dieter Flick will be hoping fend off internal distractions to end his season on a high by adding another winners medal to his managerial collection after he announced his desire to leave the club at the end of the season.
Robert Lewandowski is still expected to sit this one out as he recovers from a knee injury but the league’s leading scorer could possibly make his long awaited return to the side at the weekend. German midfielder Leon Goretzka could also return to the side after he was sidelined thanks to an injury.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen are six points off the Champions League places and a win over the record winners of the Bundesliga will do them a world of good, boosting their European aspirations and damage Bayern’s title hopes.
Second placed RasenBallsport Leipzig will travel to RheinEnergieStadion to face 1. FC Köln.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side will attempt to put behind Friday’s barren goalless draw with 1899 Hoffenheim to continue to pile the pressure on Bayern München.
Köln are in a fight for their Bundesliga status. They currently sit 17th on the standings after amassing 23 points, four points off the safe zone. A loss to the second best team in the land could strengthen the odds of them dropping to the second division.
VfL Wolfsburg showed character in their 2-3 loss to Bayern München and Eintracht Frankfurt’s awful display helped them preserve their spot as they remain third on the log but there is bigger concern as they have lost their last two Bundesliga games.
Wolfsburg will battle VfB Stuttgart at the Mercedes-Benz Arena on Wednesday.
Stuttgart are 10th on the standings and will attempt to return to winning ways after a 1-2 loss to Union Berlin against a Wolfsburg side who are winless in two games.
Fourth placed Eintracht Frankfurt will play host to 11th placed FC Augsburg at the Commerzbank Arena.
Adolf Hütter’s Frankfurt were stunned in Borussia Park last week. Hütter’s side lost 0-4 to Borussia Mönchengladbach and a loss to Augsburg could have a negative impact on their spot on the standings as Dortmund are on the hunt.
Borussia Dortmund are four points behind Frankfurt and are looking to end the season on a high by getting into the top four.
Dortmund will go toe to toe with Union Berlin at the Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday.
Erling Braut Haaland netted twice Dortmund’s 4-1 win over Werder Bremen and he will be looking to add to his tally 23 goals against an Union Berlin side who have conceded 35 goals this season.
Seventh placed Borussia Mönchengladbach will face 11th placed 1899 Hoffenheim on Wednesday.
Marco Rose’s Mönchengladbach were unplayable over the weekend as they put four goals past Frankfurt, they will hope to continue their sparkling form against Wednesday’s opposition who gained a creditable draw against Leipzig last week.
Werder Bremen are set to host 1. FSV Mainz 05 at Weserstadion on Wednesday.
Bremen hope to get maximum points as they were comfortably beaten at the Signal Iduna Park over the weekend.
Arminia Bielefeld and Schalke 04 will trade tackles at Bielefelder Alm on Tuesday in a game with huge repercussions.
A win for 15th placed Bielefeld will boost their hopes for survival while a loss for Schalke 04 will confirm their place in the lower division next season.
