Top-flight football has finally returned to screens around the world, in the form of the Bundesliga – or football made in Germany – in a new version without fans and with so much of what will become the “new normal”, as high-profile sporting competition resumes in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Six games were played in the Bundesliga Saturday (May 16) with Borrusia Dortmund providing the sparks in their emphatic 4-0 win over neighbors Schalke 04 in the Westfalia derby in front of an empty stadium. Bundesliga stadiums may have been empty but screens around the world made up for that, with the league experiencing a far higher global audience than usual and huge traction on social media as excited football fans worldwide rejoiced in the return of top-flight football.
Here are all the results from Saturday:
Borussia Dortmund 4 – 0 Schalke 04
Augsburg 1 – 2 Wolfsburg
Fortuna Düsseldorf 0 – 0 SC Paderborn 07
Hoffenheim 0 – 3 Hertha BSC
RB Leipzig 1 – 1 Freiburg
