Champions FC Bayern Munich stay top of Germany’s Bundesliga despite suffering a shock 2-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
Daichi Kamada and Aimin Younes scored first half goals to leave the Bavarian club with a mountain to climb in the period.
Robert Lewandowski pulled a goal back for Bayern early in the second half but that was as good as it got for Hansi Flick’s men at Deutsche Bank Arena.
Flick took the time time to discuss the reverse.
“We have many injured and infected players,” he said. “I didn’t think that Leon Goretzka would show such a strong performance when he comes into the game. He helped us and brought positive energy onto the pitch.
“We can build on the second half. I am not worried.
“Frankfurt are having a sensational run. But they can still improve the pitch a little bit.
“That’s something we don’t like to see. However it certainly wasn’t because of the pitch.”
The Bayern goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer also voiced his sentiments on the defeat.
“We didn’t learn from the Bielefeld game, that was not enough against such a team,” Neuer explained. “We have to be wide awake from the start.
“The second half was good. Had we played like that from the start, we’d have won here.”
Borussia Dortmund won 4-0 against the home side Schalke at the VELTINS-Arena.
Erling Braut-Haaland netted a brace for the Black and Yellow with Jadon Sancho and Raphael also adding goal scoring contributions in a routine and one sided victory.
Sasha Kalajdzic was the hero for VfB Stuttgart in their 1-0 victory over FC Köln at RheinEnergie Stadion.
Kevin Stoeger scored Mainz’s winner in the 2-1 success while Union Berlin won 1-0 at Freiburg.
