Champions, Bayern Munich have continued to set the pace in the Bundesliga and have gone eight points clear of the chasing pack.
Hansi Flick’s men defeated Hoffeinheim 4-1 at the Allianz Arena with a sparkling display that sent a statement of intent to the rest of the field.
Goals from Joshua Kimmich, Thomas Muller, Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry saw Bayern complete the one sided win at the Allianz Arena with Andrej Kramaric netting the consolation for the visitors.
Speaking after the match, Bayern’s head coach, Flick recognized that his side is finally back in good rhythm after going through a little bit of a rough spell in the wake of crashing out of the DFB-Pokal at the hands of Holstein Kiel.
“Both teams wanted to play football, Manu (goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer) held up well one time or the other. We have now won four games in a row, scored twelve points and played a good game (on Saturday), even if not everything was great. I am happy,” Flick told reporters after the win.
RB Leipzig are up to second on the standings as Christopher Nkunku’s effort secured a 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen at the Red Bull Arena.
VfL Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt are the other two sides in the Champions League places following respective wins over SC Freiburg and Hertha Berlin.
Wout Weighorst netted Wolfsburg’s second in the 3-0 success at the Volkswagen Arena and he expressed happiness at his side’s ability to make the most of the rather unique season.
“There is a lot possible for us,” he said. “We know that from the beginning of the season, it’s a strange time still with a lot of matches every three days when you are playing in Europe, maybe we can take advantage of that,” he said.
Borussia Dortmund are in sixth place following a hugely dramatic game against Augsburg at the Signal Iduna Park.
Erling Braut Haaland missed a first half penalty but it counted for nothing as the Black and Yellow completed a come from behind 3-1 victory with Thomas Delaney, Jadon Sancho and an own goal by Felix Uduokhai ensuring Edin Terzic’s men secured maximum points.
Arminia Bielefeld, Mainz and Schalke are still in the drop zone.
Arminia lost 3-1 to Köln at the RheinEnergieStadion and Nigerian striker, Emmanuel Dennis was pleased to play his part as he made his debut for the Billygoats.
Mainz lost 2-0 to VfB Stuttgart at the Mercedes Benz Arena and Schalke 1-1 with Werder Bremen at Wonhivest Weserstadion.
Klaas Jan Huntelaar is now back and firing for Schalke for the second time in his career and he is hoping to help the club beat the drop.
Huntelaar made his return in the stalemate against Bremen and insists his side can now begin to build as they look to navigate a route to safety.
The striker missed the games with Cologne and Bayern Munich after sealing his return to Schalke from Ajax.
Finally, on Saturday he was named on the bench and he watched as Schalke dominated the first-half and deservedly took the lead through Omar Mascarell. However, Kevin Mohwald equalised for Werder Bremen in the 77th minute, which led to the entrance of Huntelaar.
The Dutch striker was not to have a dream return as both sides had to settle for a point in the end.
