Bundesliga wrap Saturday: Bayern drop points but stay top

  • Champions, FC Bayern Munich were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw at Union Berlin as the plucky hosts continued to punch above their weight this season.
Grischa Promel powered home a header off Christopher Trimmel’s inviting corner on four minutes to stun the Bavarians at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei.
However Bayern have Robert Lewandowski to turn to when things get sticky and the fearsome Pole netted his 16th goal in as many games this season in the second half to restore parity.
The defending champions have now drawn three of their past four Bundesliga games but sit at the summit above RB Leipzig on goal difference.
Leipzig won 2-0 at home to Werder Bremen with Marcel Sabitzer and Daniel Olmo netting in the first half at the Red Bull Arena.
At Signal Iduna Park, Silas Wamangituka scored a brace as Borussia Dortmund were astonishingly outclassed 5-1 by VfL Stuttgart.
It means that Dortmund have now lost their last three Bundesliga games at home.
Borussia Moenchengladbach and Hertha Berlin drew 1-1 at Borussia-Park while Elvis Rexhbecaj scored a 55th winner as Koln claimed maximum points at the expense of Mainz 05 at the Opel Arena.
Vicenzo Grifo and Woo-Jeong Yeong were Freiburg’s match winners in the club’s 2-0 win over Armijia Bielefeld at Schwarzwald-Stadion.
