Edin Terzic’s reign at Borussia Dortmund began on Tuesday as Die Schwarzgelben (The Black and Yellows) defeated Werder Bremen 2-1 at Wohninvest WESERSTADION.
Terzic took the reins for Tuesday’s game after Lucien Favre was dismissed following last Saturday’s scandalous 1-5 defeat at home to VfL Stuttgart.
Raphael Guerreiro scored the opening goal for Dortmund but Kevin Moehwald levelled matters for the hosts just before the half hour.
Dortmund made the points safe when they won a penalty in the 77th minute.
Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka fouled Manuel Akanji in the box and referee Robert Schroder (Germany) wasted no time in pointing to the spot.
Pavlenka almost made amends as he beat out Marco Reus’s original effort from 12 years but the Dortmund captain followed the rebound and slammed into an unguarded net.
The win lifts Dortmund up to fourth on the standings as they have now amassed 22 points from 12 matches.
Stuttgart drew 2-2 at home to this season’s surprise package, Union Berlin with Sasa Kalajdzic rescuing a point for the hosts with a brace in the final five minutes of the contest decided at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
Marvin Friedrich and Taiwo Awoniyi netted for the visitors either side of half time to give them what looked like an unassailable lead before the late Kalajdzic show took centre stage.
Lars Stindl scored a hattrick as Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Moenchengladbach shared the spoils in a 3-3 classic at Deutsche Bank Park.
Eintracht Frankfurt are in ninth place on the standings with 14 points from 12 matches while Moenchengladbach occupy seventh spot with 18 points from 12 matches.
In the day’s final game, there were few sparks as Hertha Berlin and Mainz 05 battled to a 0-0 draw at Olympiastadion.
