Nigerian club Rivers United take chartered flight to Equatorial Guinea for CCC fixture

One of Nigeria’s two teams in this year’s CAF Confederation Cup, Rivers United, will embark on a chartered flight on Friday (November 27) for their trip to Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea on Friday. The Port Harcourt club will be hosted by Equatoguinean club, Futuro Kings in a first-leg, preliminary round clash on November 28.

Members of the Rivers United contingent to Mongomo undertook mandatory Covid-19 tests as they prepared to depart Nigeria for the game on Saturday. The results of the test were expected to be released on Friday.

Technical manager of Rivers United Stanley Eguma meanwhile took the time to discuss his side’s preparedness for the game.
“We are ready for the game in Mongomo,” Eguma told SNPNews Africa. “The core and spine of the team from previous seasons have been prepared.
“A few new players have joined us and these are individuals with experience of playing matches on the continent.
“We have studied our opponents and know what to expect.
“The objective is to try to get a result which will make the second leg in Nigeria a formality.”
United will face Equatoguinean club, Futuro Kings over two legs for the right to play in the first round of Africa’s second-tier club competition.

The ‘Pride of Rivers’ will visit Mongomo for the first leg and a week later, the coin will be flipped as the Port Harcourt club welcomes the Kings to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium for the second leg.
