Mo Salah at the double, Man City crush Newcastle

Mohamed Salah scored twice for Liverpool as the Premier League champions ended their recent away goals drought since the restart by beating Brighton 3-1.

Liverpool shot into a 2-0 lead under 10 minutes through Mo Salah in the 6th minute and Jordan Henderson on 8 minutes before Leandro Trossard pulled one back for Brighton in the 44th minutes.

However, Mo Salah restored their two-goal lead in the 76th minute from Andy Robertson’s corner. Liverpool lead man City by 23 points while Brighton remain in 15th position safely clear of relegation worries, nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Earlier in the evening, Manchester City beat Newcastle 5-0 with an outstanding display by David Silva who supplied the opening goal by Gabriel Jesus in the 10th minute, with further goals from Riyad Mahrez in the 21st minute, and an own goal by Newcastle’s Federico Fernandez in the second half, 58th minute.

Silva will get al the plaudits for the final two goals , first, a sublime free-kick which was the moment of the match in the minute and another assist for Raheem Sterling’s 90th minute goal.

Chelsea had jumped to third place on Tuesday with a win, while Leicester clawed a 1-1 draw to drp into fourth place.

It was second-half substitute, Tammy Abraham who struck the winner within minutes of coming on to power Chelsea to a tense 3-2 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Tuesday.  The win lifted Chelsea up to third in the Premier League but Leicester could leapfrog them with a win over Arsenal at the Emirates in the day’s late game.

First-half goals from Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic gave the Blues a commanding lead before Wilfried Zaha halved the deficit just after the half hour, in spectacular fashion.

Christian Benteke hit back barely 60 seconds after Abraham’s 71st-minute winner but it was nothing more than scant consolation in the end. Chelsea broke the deadlock when Cahill appeared to pull a hamstring chasing Reece James’ ball in behind, allowing Willian time and space to pick out Giroud to steer home from close range.

With Cahill off injured, Palace’s day went from bad to worse when Pulisic lashed in from 12 yards, with Willian again providing the assist.
The lively Willian went close to a grabbing a goal of his own, but Vicente Guaita proved equal to the Brazilian’s side-footed effort. Palace sprung into action in a spectacular manner soon after, Zaha arrowing a glorious strike beyond Kepa Arrizabalaga from 30 yards.

Abraham’s precise finish from Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s neat pass appeared to put the game to bed but Chelsea switched off and Patrick van Aanholt laid on an unmissable chance for Benteke barely a minute later. However, Palace were unable to complete the comeback, with Dann’s header hitting the upright deep into stoppage time as Chelsea, beaten 3-2 in their previous away game at West Ham, reversed that scoreline this time.

What does it mean? Chelsea hunting Foxes. It is tight in the battle for a top-four finish, with Chelsea putting five points between themselves and fifth-placed Manchester United.  They also edged ahead of Leicester City and into third ahead of the Foxes’ clash with Arsenal. Palace, meanwhile, stay 14th.
