Enyimba forward, Reuben Bala has said the on-going coronavirus break has helped many top-flight players regain lost energy and “refresh” themselves during what had become an overly hectic African season.
The Nigerian top-flight league has been suspended since mid-March due to the outbreak of flu-like coronavirus pandemic.
“Though the coronavirus break was unexpected and unwanted it has helped many of us to refresh and regain strengths after what appeared to be a hectic league season.
“Although as expected with human beings some of us with queer lifestyles are mostly likely to abuse themselves within this period and turn out worst off at the end of the day.
“Personally, I have been using the break substantially to regain energy and refresh.
“Prior to the break we have been going through lot of stresses meeting up the demands of the league and continental assignments.
“Unlike the fear of many that players will return to the pitch rusty and worn out I will come back to the pitch better and stronger.
“It has not been sleeping all through the day for me I have a well-planned training programme within the confine of my premises.
“So I’m fit and cannot wait to see the league restart once again,” said the former Plateau United goal poacher.
Bala admitted that his side would feel short-changed if the League Management Company voided the current season due to the coronavirus crisis.
“Naturally, we will feel bad and cheated if the league ends now as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We are not on level terms with other teams, we have five outstanding matches.
“Chances are there we could win all the matches and that will take us ahead of the leaders, Plateau United.
“We know two seasons ago Lobi Stars were declared champions under an unusual circumstance but then all the teams were on same number of matches.
“However, if LMC decided to void the league under prevailing circumstance Enyimba will have no other choice than to obey,” said Bala.
The reigning champions are fifth on the 20-team top-flight Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) on 36 points – 13 behind league leaders, Plateau United – though with five matches in hand.
