Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, has said he would love to win this season’s La Liga title with Los Blancos, upon the resumption of the season.
La Liga has been on an enforced break due to the coronavirus pandemic but the competition resumes on June 11 for the conclusion of the 2019/20 campaign. Courtois revealed that his expectations hinge on Real Madrid breasting the tape ahead of rivals, FC Barcelona.
“I really want to start the league again and fight to win it,” Courtois said on the Vamos program, El Partidazo de Movistar-Volver es Ganar.
“(On Sunday), I did a F-1 GP challenge and on Tuesday it will be at full throttle with football, matches every three or four days,” he said.
Courtois also discussed his prospects of capturing the Zamora Trophy this season. The Zamora Trophy is awarded by the Marca newspaper, to the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-to-games ratio.
A goalkeeper has to have played at least 28 games of 60 or more minutes to be eligible for the trophy.
“Those trophies are cool and I won two with Atlético and I would like to win it with Madrid. It is a job for the whole team, I will have to stop the shots but it is a collective prize.
“If I continue a bit along the same lines , the one I have been since October…. You can fight,” he said.
Eden Hazard has struggled to impose himself at Real Madrid since making the switch from Chelsea. Courtous who was a teammate of Hazard’s at Chelsea and said it was imperative for his international teammate to hit peak form for Real as the La Liga season resumes.
“His (Hazard’s) form is very good and it surprises me. It is picking up a good rhythm and you have to go little by little.
“It is seen that he is in shape and we will need him to fight for the title.
“Real Madrid have currently struck a good rhythm and a good touch. I have confidence and we will start well,” he said.
The Belgian goalkeeper then discussed the prospect of playing games without fans as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
“In the end what happens is different. When there is an atmosphere it is more cool even if it is the opposite. It gives you more adrenaline and it motivates me to stop more.
“The motivation will be the same. I felt very good even in the first training session, even better than before I returned from the holidays because now at home I have been shooting,” he concluded.
