“Dead” footballer found alive after four years

A former professional footballer who was presumed dead for four years, Hiannick Kamba, has been found alive and well.

Kamba, who was on the books of Bundesliga club, Schalke 04, was a former teammate of German international goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer and was a youth star.

He was declared dead in January 2016 following an apparent crash in the Congo and his club at the time, eighth-tier side VfB Huls, announced his death and subsequently mourned him.

Remarkably, Kamba has now been found alive in Gelsenkirchen without any signs of indisposition.

An investigation has been launched by prosecutors against the player’s ex-wife who is reported to have collected a six-figure life insurance payment following the news that Kamba had died.

Kamba’s ex-wife claims she realised that she was eligible for a life insurance payout and presented documents to the insurance company to prove his death.

Prosecutor Anette Milk believes foul play was involved and charges have now been pressed.

“The accused is accused of fraud, but she denies the fact. The proceedings are still ongoing,” she told Bild.

“He (Kamba) stated that his companions had left him during the night while on a trip to the interior of the Congo in January 2016 and they took his papers, money and telephone,” she explained.

Kamba will be a witness during the hearing.
