Nigerian forward, Emmanuel Dennis has spoken about his desire to impress at German club FC Köln.
Dennis completed a loan deal from Belgian side, Club Brugge on 25 January 2021 and will now stay on at the Bundesliga side 1. FC Köln until the end of the season.
The Super Eagles forward was immense for Brugge, a side he joined on 30 May 2017.
He had joined on a four-year-deal for a fee of €1.2 million and started the season extremely well, scoring five goals in six matches, including one on his debut on 26 July 2017 to İstanbul Başakşehir, a 3–3 draw and a brace three days later in the 4-0 league win over Lokeren.
His finest moment in a Brugge shirt was arguably on 1 October 2019 when he scored twice in a 2–2 draw against storied European powerhouses, Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in the group stage of the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League season.
The 24-year-old has now set his sights on recording success with Köln who currently sit in 14th place Bundesliga standings with 18 points from 19 matches.
Dennis made his league debut for the Billy Goats in the 3-1 league victory over Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday and was pleased with his exertions and his side’s success at the RheinEnergieSTADION.
“I am happy because the three points were really important for the club,” Dennis told the official Bundesliga media channel. “It was a tough game but we were able to get the win which was very important for the team.
Meanwhile head coach of Köln Markus Gisdol believes Dennis and new Max Meyer can inspire the club to beat the drop this term.
“Emmanuel Dennis is fast and drives towards can. Max Meyer can help us with his vision and ability to keep the ball in the transition phase from defence to attack,” Gisdol told the club’s official website. “It’s good that both (players) are here. They have quality. A player like Dennis – who is looking to head towards goal, who can play up front alone or just off a striker and someone that can bring his dynamism to the table – we haven’t had someone like that.”
