Chinedu Efugh, a formidable presence in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) for the last decade, has explained his absence from the suspended 2019/20 NPFL season.
The NPFL and other domestic leagues were suspended indefinitely on March 18 due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The former Enugu Rangers and Heartland captain last wore the colours of oriental side, Abia Warriors in 2018/19 season.
Efugh said he would head back to the pitch with a choice club side whenever the next football season’s commences.
“No, I’m not playing for any club at the moment in the current 2019/20 season rather I’m having a quite time with myself and family.
“Abia Warriors failed to renew my contract after 2018/19 NPFL season and when they made known their decision to me it was too late for me to hook up with any other club.
“I decided to rest and wait for the on-going league season to end before returning to the pitch.
“I know for certain that I will secure a choice club to play for in the coming new league season.
“My teeming fans should look forward to seeing me hit back onto the pitch whenever the next season starts.
“No, I’m not injured, I’m as fit as a fiddle to hit the league pitch running, so there is no cause for alarm, I’m okay and will return to the pitch next league season,” said Efugh.
Efugh said he is doing his very best to keep fit within the period of inactivity due to the coronavirus crisis and advice his colleagues to ensure that they stay safe and stick to the health measure of the authorities.
“This is a critical period for humanity and everybody owes it to himself/herself to stay safe and stay alive.
“I keep daily personal routine training within the confine of my premises aimed at keeping fit and healthy during the coronavirus period.
“I know we will overcome the health scourge and we will duly return back to our respective duties,” said Efugh.
The 2019/20 NPFL season has been on an indefinite suspension since mid-March after matchday 25 due to the outbreak of flu-like coronavirus with no possible restart date on the table.
