Eintracht Frankfurt topple Hertha Berlin to go top of Bundesliga

Eintracht Frankfurt replaced champions Bayern Munich as the early pacesetters of the Bundesliga on Friday (September 25) following a 3-1 win at Hertha Berlin.

The visitors came into the game on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to newly-promoted Arminia Bielefeld on matchday one but were quickly out of box blocks at Olympiastadion on Friday.

Dedryck Boyata’s clumsy foul on Andre Silva was ruthlessly penalized by referee Bastian Dankert who pointed to the spot and awarded the visitors a penalty. Silva dusted himself and took the penalty, striking low and hard to Alexander Schwolow’s right-hand post.
The Hertha goalkeeper went the right way but the sheer venom of the strike took it past him and into the bottom corner as Eintracht got their noses in front.

The visitors extended their lead six minutes later as Bas Dost rose highest in a crowded Hertha box to head home Daichi Kamada’s expertly-delivered freekick on the near side. The riproaring contest monitored by SPNAfricaNews threatened to turn into a rout as Eintracht claimed a third goal in the 71st minute.

Kamada was again the provider as his simple pass found Sebastian Rode who curled home magnificently from the edge of the box.
The luckless Martin Hinteregger diverted a dangerous Jordan Torunarigha cross into his own net with 13 minutes remaining.

Eintracht now sit at the summit of the Bundesliga with four points from two games while Hertha occupy sixth spot having amassed three points from a possible six.
