The Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has reportedly called Kylian Mbappe’s father in a bid to convince the PSG star to move to Anfield according to reports in France.
Mbappe’s consistently high-octane performances have made him one of the world’s most sought-after players.
He has been severally linked with a host top clubs and it is believed that the forward could cost as much as £250million.
However, under Klopp’s tutelage Liverpool have risen to become arguably the world’s best club side, having won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup in the past 10 months.
And that has put them in the frame to sign the 21-year-old striker, who has scored 30 goals for Paris-Saint Germain this season.
French outlet Le10 Sport reports that Klopp has contacted Mbappe’s father to ascertain the level of interest his son would have over a potential switch to Anfield.
It seems the Liverpool manager is trying to get ahead in the race to sign World Cup winner Mbappe, who was reportedly on the verge of completing a transfer to Madrid shortly before football was postponed amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Former PSG, Monaco and Rangers winger Jerome Rothen, who played with Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane for France, claimed that a deal to take Mbappe to Spain was close to completion before football came to a halt.
“I know from club sources that a deal to take Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid was almost done,” Rothen told Radio Montecarlo , via Goal.com.
“But with what has been happening, I’m sure that Mbappe’s arrival at Real Madrid will be postponed.
“They will have an agreement between them in place because PSG agreed to let him go this summer. In my opinion, it’s just a question of time.”
Meanwhile, a former member of the European Parliament has predicted that football players will be worth a fraction of their former values due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Daniel Cohn-Bendit, a member of French political party Europe Ecology – The Greens, believes superstars such as Mbappe could be worth as little as €40m (£35m) after the outbreak subsides.
