Friday describes NPFL title a crowning glory

Akwa United striker, Ubong Friday has said his greatest personal desire is to be crowned champion of the Nigerian top-flight.

The nation’s domestic top-flight and other leagues in the land are in a state of limbo due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Friday said his side despite lying sixth on the log have the whole potentials to be crowned champions of the on-going league season.

“You know I have not won the league crown before and now we are sixth on the league log and the league leaders at the moment are Plateau United.”

“We have very good chance to be champions if the league resumes after the coronavirus crisis.

“Of course, if the league restarts we will be pushing hard to win the league title and that will be a crowning glory for me as well as the entire team.

“That’s my personal desire and dream to be champion for the first time and that will be a crowning of glory of a sort for me.

“The biggest glory for me and the world is for God to take away the coronavirus pandemic, that will be huge to humanity,” said the Akwa United goal poacher.

Friday said his body system has become used to daily training even during the on-going lock down.

“Personally, I cannot afford not to train every day, my body has been wired to train regularly.

“I observe the social distancing and other health measures as spelled out by the authorities in the course of carrying out by training exercise.

“The team is on break so the training is almost enjoyment training without the input of coaches or any other technical expert.

“It’s not the same as normal training prior to the outbreak of coronavirus but then it helps greatly to keep fit,” said Friday.

The Nigerian goal king said he is not worried that he has not been scoring goals in the on-going top-flight.

“Mentally and physically I’m okay, I have continued to hold on knowing that football comes with different challenges.

“I did not have playing time during the tenure of our former coach but right now with the new coach I am having more than enough playing time.

“I know the goals will come and that’s why I am not worried, it will surely come aplenty,” said Friday.

Akwa United are sixth on the 20-team top-flight log on 35 points 14 adrift of league leaders, Plateau United.
