Fulham have been promoted back into the Premier League after beating West London rivals Brentford in the Championship play-off final – thanks to two extra-time goals from an unlikely hero, left-back, Joe Bryan.
Bryan opened the scoring in the 105th minute with a low drive from 40 yards that surprised Brentford’s Spanish goalkeeper David Raya napping as he anticipated a cross.
Bryan struck again, this time combining with Aleksandar Mitrovic to beat Raya as Brentford pushed for the equalizer. The second goal appeared to ensure Fulham were home and dry. Brentford, however, were not done, clawing back a goal in the fourth minute of added time through a Henrik Dalsgaard header but it was all too late and the Bees were unable to seal a second. Fulham will now join Leeds and West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.
Fulham, relegated in 2019, spent only one season in the Championship before staging a remarkable comeback to earn their re-entry into the Premier League.
