Augsburg have replaced Eintracht Frankfurt as the leaders of Germany’s Bundesliga following a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday (September 26).
Nigerian-born attacker, Felix Uduokhai and Daniel Caligiuri netted either side of the break for Fuggerstädter as Die Borussen were put to the sword in comprehensive fashion in front of 6,000 fans at WWK Arena.
Uduokhai’s effort on 40 minutes was, in all fairness, almost impossible to keep out as he planted a powerful header emphatically past Dortmund goalkeeper, Roman Buerki from point-blank range following an expert delivery off a free-kick, from Caligiuri. Caligiuri then made the points safe in the 54th minute as he latched on to a brilliant through ball and held off a half-hearted challenge from Thomas Meunier before slotting past the badly-exposed Buerki.
RasenBallsport Leipzig are up to third following a 1-1 against Bayer Leverkusen at BayArena. Emil Forsberg opened the scoring for the visitors in the 14th minute only for the hosts to hit back through Kerem Demirbay six minutes later.
Borussia Moenchengladbach continued their poor start to the season as their 1-1 draw against Union Berlin at Borussia Park means they have only amassed a solitary point from a possible six this term. Marcus Thuram had put Die Fohlen on course for their first win of the season with the game’s opening goal on 56 minutes only for Nico Schlotterbeck to equalize for the visitors in the 80th minute.
VfB Stuttgart were the biggest winners in Saturday’s action, coming from a goal down to thrash Mainz 05 4-1 at the Opel Arena. Robin Quaison scored the game’s opener on 13 minutes but Stuttgart were back on level terms on the stroke of half time through Silas Wamangituka Fundu. Daniel Didavi, Mateo Klimowicz and Sasa Kalajdzic all made goal scoring contributions for the visitors after the break to complete the mauling.
Joan Simun Edmundsson netted the winner as newly-promoted Arminia Bielefeld claimed a priceless 1-0 win over FC Koeln at SchuecoArena.
In the day’s late game, Werder Bremen defeated Schalke 3-1 at VELTINS-Arena. Niclas Fuellkrug was the visitors’ hero as he scored a hattrick, with goals coming on 22, 37 and 59 minutes. Schalke’s consolation was plundered by Mark Uth in stoppage time but it represented nothing more than a consolation in the end.
