Serie A club, Cagliari have announced that Uruguyan defender, Diego Godin has tested positive for COVID-19. The Sardinia club announced that both Godin and his Uruguay teammate Nahitan Nandez had been left out of the squad for this weekend’s trip to Juventus.
Godin returned from his duties with Uruguay, who beat Colombia 3-0 and lost 2-0 to Brazil during the international break and the news was subsequently announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19. The Celeste hard man moved to Cagliari from Inter ahead of the season.
“The player [Godin], who returned yesterday from his commitments with the Uruguayan national team, did not come into contact with the members of the team and was promptly isolated,” a statement read. “The test to which Nahitan Nandez was subjected, who also returned yesterday from Uruguay, was negative.
“Although this is not a due act, the club, in agreement with the medical staff, decided as a precaution to exclude him from the squad for the Turin match in order to protect all the people who would have come into contact with him.”
