Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson may miss Sunday’s Premier League clash with Leicester due to a groin injury he picked up on international duty.
Henderson picked up the injury during England’s UEFA Nations League game against Belgium on last Sunday. He subsequently returned to Liverpool on Monday after withdrawing from Gareth Southgate’s squad.
The Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp was hopeful Henderson would be available but The Times report that he is likely to miss the game at Anfield, giving Jurgen Klopp another headache ahead the clash with the league leaders.
Klopp had already been dealt a huge blow on Wednesday when Mohamed Salah tested positive for coronavirus for a second time.
The forward had been in self-isolation since last Friday when he first tested positive with mild symptoms while on international duty with Egypt.
The 28-year-old had attended his brother’s wedding in Cairo four days earlier and was pictured without a face mask and failed to observe social distancing.
Salah could also miss the next two games against Atalanta in the Champions League and Brighton on November 28.
He will continue to self-isolate and cannot leave his homeland until he returns a negative test result.
Klopp is also without long-term absentees Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez while Trent Alexander-Arnold is facing another three weeks on the sidelines after picking up a calf injury against Manchester City.
Joel Matip is currently the only fit senior centre back with either Nat Phillips or Rhys Williams likely to partner him in the starting line-up on Sunday.
However, Williams missed the England U21 game against Albania with a sore hip and was sent home as a precaution.
Fabinho, who can also play in the centre of defence, is still receiving treatment for a hamstring injury.
Thiago Alcantara has missed the last three Premier League games with a knee injury but there is a chance he could play some part in the game on Sunday.
Andy Robertson should also be fit after playing in Scotland’s defeat by Israel on Wednesday. The left back has recovered from the tight hamstring that kept him out of the game with Slovakia on Sunday.
