Maikaba says Plateau United will be NPFL champions

Plateau United head coach, Abdu Maikaba has said his side have everything it takes to finish as champions the 2019/20 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The Tin City side are at the summit of the 20-team top-flight log on 49 points after 25 rounds of matches.

The elite league and other leagues in the land are currently on hold due to the novel and deadly coronavirus pandemic ravaging almost the entire human race.

Maikaba said his side have shown uncommon character to end the campaign as champions right from the commencement of the league and just need to maintain 100% focus in the remaining matches whenever the league restarts.

“From all indications we have been consistent keeping the top position so I can confidently tell you that we are more than able to finish the campaign as champions.

“We started the league race on top, we have seen 25 matches gone bye with about 13 matches to see off the entire season.

“If we could go through the rigour of those 25 matches to keep the top spot we just need to redouble our efforts in the remaining matches to finish the campaign at the top.

“And we can do it by keeping 100% concentration and focus in the remaining matches,” said the former Akwa United gaffer.

Maikaba said he has been in constant touch with his players to consistently preach to them on the need to observe all the COVID-19 health measures and above all to watch what they eat within the inactivity period.

“Yes, we are always in touch with the players and we always remind them of the need to observe the social distancing as well as adhere strictly to the guidelines issued by the health workers.

“Again we advise them to watch what they eat so as not to gain unnecessary weight, we insist that they must try to keep fit.

“The idea is to ensure that we return to the pitch fitter and stronger to finish the league campaign on top,” said the former Enyimba tactician.

The Jos club restart the league with a tough date at Kano Pillars in Kano whenever the league body, League Management Company (LMC) announces resumption of football hostilities.
