An early injury scare to Kun Aguero dealt Manchester City an early blow but after that it was business as usual as they continued their fine goalscoring form with a 5-0 win over Burnley.
Phil Foden was on target as in the 22nd minute before setting up the second for Riyad Mahrez.
The Algerian added a 3rd just before the interval, with the clock recording his penalty as 45+3 minutes, ensuring that City went into the break leading 3-0. Then David Silva – who many say young Foden will be looking to replace at the end of the season – added the fourth on 51 minutes.
Foden was on target again, this time in the 68th minute, with his second of the night and his third goal since the restart, to really underline his rising profile as one of England’s brightest prospects, along with Jordan Sancho of Borrusia Dortmund.
This win means that even if Liverpool beat Crystal Palace on Wednesday, the Reds will have to wait a little longer for their highly anticipated Premeir League title.
