Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Leicester ignite top 4 race

Manchester United beat Bournemouth 5-2 on Saturday afternoon (July 4) to extend their unbeaten run to 16 games, as the race for top four reached new heights. Arsenal continued their resurgence with a 1-0 win over Wolves away from home, Leicester beat Crystal Palace 3-0 and Chelsea beat Wolves 3-0 to complete an exciting day in the battle for European places.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side went behind after an early error at his near post by David de Gea gave the Cherries the lead through Junior Stanislas, who nutmegged Harry Maguire.

United came back through Mason Greenwood as the teenager scored a double and Marcus Rashford scored from the spot in the 35th minutes, Anthony Martial scored his 20th goal of the season in the 45th minute, Bournemouth pulled one back in the 49th minute through Josh King from a penalty.

Bruno Fernandes made it five for United, curling home a 59th minute free-kick.

Solskjaer was very impressed with his young striker.

“He is a fantastic goalscorer.”

“The moment he got the goals, they were very important moments for us. He is a very, very talented boy and we will nurture him and manage him as best we can.”

Solskjaer was full of praise for his front three, adding: “Very, very happy with today – with the energy in the team and the goals we scored. I think that was a game for the fans. That is definitely one the Stratford End would have enjoyed.”

“They are on the same team and working towards one common goal. That is one of the positive things about the forwards they are good friends and keep challenging each other.”
