Manuel Neuer extends Bayern contract

Germany International goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, has extended his contract with German champions, FC Bayern Munich.
The 34-year-old goalkeeper will now stay on at the Bavarian club until 30 June 2023.

Bayern released an official statement on Wednesday afternoon to ratify the news.

The club’s Sporting Director, Hasan Salihamidžić also spoke about the development as he described Neuer as a symbol of the club’s consistent success.

“Manuel stands for the continuous success of #FCBayern, for responsibility and world-class standards. I am delighted about our continued work together,” he was quoted as saying on the club’s official channels.

The club’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, also voiced positive sentiments on the news.
“FC Bayern are very happy Manuel has extended his contract until 30 June 2023,” explained Rummenigge.
“Manuel is the best goalkeeper in the world and our captain,” he said.

Oliver Kahn, FC Bayern executive board member and goalkeeping legend was also not left out in discussing the news.
“I can easily put myself in the situation Manuel is in.
“We understand the direction Manuel wants to take in this phase of his career and what’s important to him.
“He’s sent a strong signal with this extension,” Kahn said.

Neuer then spoke about the decision – which means he will be contracted to the Bavarian club until he is 37.
“During the weeks of the shutdown for the coronavirus pandemic, I didn’t want to make a decision because nobody knew if, when and how Bundesliga football would continue,” he said.
“It was important for me to continue working with our goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic.
“Now this has been resolved, I look to the future with great optimism. I feel very comfortable and at home in Bavaria.
“FC Bayern are one of Europe’s top football clubs,” he concluded.
