Massive goals in Confed Cup is disrespectful – Osho

Enyimba manager, Fatai Osho has said it would have been simply disrespectful to expect huge goal margin in the Caf Confederation Cup clash against Nigerian side and neighbours, Rivers United.

The two-time African champions piped the Pride of Rivers 1-0 in Sunday’s Caf Confederation Cup second round first leg fixture at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba.

Osho said he was satisfied with the victory aware that his side were up against one of the most formidable opponents in the continent.

“It was not an easy game any one that watched the match would attest to it that it was truly a difficult game.

“Truly, we expected what we saw in the encounter, Rivers United are formidable side, we all knew it and expected that level of opposition they came out with.

“It was delightful on our part to come out with that vital win, we expected what they gave us nothing was surprising at all.

“Of course, it will be a total disrespect to start thinking that we would beat them with as many as three, four unreplied goals.

“Rivers United are formidable side it would not happen that way, it is a rare occurrence in the continent even at the level of NPFL to see such wide goal margin.

“The fact that you scored one goal means you can still go ahead to achieve an away goal in the reverse fixture.

“The era of three, four goals in the continent and NPFL has gone though it could still happen naturally but it is not what you just set out to achieve you could be derailed at the end of the day,” said the former Remo Stars coach.

Osho said there is still room for improvement as his side look forward to the decisive clash in Port Harcourt on Sunday, February 21.

“Actually, even if you win the World Cup tomorrow you can still get better, no team is 100% perfect.

“Yesterday’s (Sunday) match is gone we are looking forward to the reverse fixture next Sunday in Port Harcourt, the truth is that there will always be room to get better and that’s what we will be doing in the days ahead,” said Osho.

The aggregate winners of the two-legged encounter among the Nigerian sides will progress to the group stage of Africa’s second tier inter-club competition.
