Messi upset as Argentina drop points

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi was far from impressed with the refereeing in Argentina’s 1-1 draw with Paraguay in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying on Thursday.
The six-time Balon d’Or winner had a goal disallowed that would have given the Albiceleste a 2-1 lead in the second half, with it being disallowed for a foul that happened 30 seconds before in the build-up.
The kicks flew back and forth in the match and, with things getting heated, Messi’s frustration at having what he believed to be a legitimate goal ruled out caused him to react.
“You already fu**ed us twice,” Messi said to the referee, pointing with two fingers.
“Twice you fu**ed us up,” he repeated shortly after.
The referee had gone to the VAR monitor to check whether Nico Gonzalez had fouled Angel Romero in midfield almost half a minute before Messi received a pass in the area that he sent into the back of the net, with his shot kissing off the post.
The Argentina players and coaching staff were jumping for joy, but their celebration was short-lived.
Albiceleste boss Lionel Scaloni also voiced his displeasure with the decision.
“It’s incredible, shameful…” he repeated again and again.
Ultimately, the match would end 1-1 as both Argentina and Paraguay remain unbeaten in qualification after three games apiece.
