Italian giants, AC Milan are reportedly set to ask their players to take a 20% salary cut in the coming days.
This is part of the Italian club’s plans to cope with the economic crisis caused by COVID 19.
In October, Milan announced a loss of €195m for the 2019/20 season and according to respected Italian publication, La Repubblica they are the first Serie A team that will begin talks with their players asking for a salary cut.
Players of champions Juventus players had agreed to take a collective pay cut in March and it saved the club around €90m.
Lega Serie A President Paolo Dal has warned ‘the system is close to collapsing’ but the Government has reportedly refused to help Serie A clubs with a financing of €600m.
Italian clubs, it seems, must now find an alternative way to cut their costs and Milan will soon begin talks to reduce the players’ wages by 20%.
Other clubs are reportedly going to do the same in the near future.
The Rossoneri are also in talks to extend the contracts of Gigio Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu who will see their contracts expire at the end of the season.
