Musa, Iwobi react to Nigeria’s capitulation against Sierra Leone

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has taken the time to apologize to Nigerians following the team’s astonishing 4-4 draw in Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying on Friday.
The three-time African champions raced to a 4-0 lead inside the opening half hour against the Leone Stars but were pegged back by an energetic and stirring second half fight back at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
Musa was understandably disappointed by the result and apologized to his countrymen shortly after the final whistle.
“On behalf of myself and my teammates, we are really really sorry for the disappointment (of Friday’s game),” he said.
“We know we made very big mistakes in the game but there’s nothing we can do.
“That’s football; you win some and you lose some.
“We are going to correct our mistake in the next game.
“We are going there (to Freetown to win) and we know that we can do it.
“We are going to give our all to qualify for the AFCON.
“Again, we are very very sorry for the game tonight but we know we will make it up to Nigerians.”
Everton star, Alex Iwobi netted twice for Nigeria on Thursday.
His brace was however inadequate as the Nigeria senior men’s national team conceded four times at home for the first time since 1969.
Iwobi was understandably crestfallen and duly voiced his sentiments on the game.
“Deeply disappointed. We will work to put things right,” Iwobi wrote on Twitter.
Nigeria and the Leone Stars will go toe to toe in the reverse fixture on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles are still unbeaten in Group L of 2021 AFCON qualifying and lead the section with seven points from three matches.
