Lorenzo Insigne was inspirational for Napoli, scoring two goals and providing a magnificent assist for Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano as Napoli outclassed Fiorentina 6-0 in Serie A on Sunday.
The captain found the net within five minutes at San Paolo, although the Viola were unlucky not to get back into it when David Ospina made a great save, they hit the crossbar and skimmed the far post.
Instead, the Partenopei were clinical, going 4-0 up by half-time with Diego Demme completing a counter-attack, Lozano sent clear at the back post by a genius Insigne assist, and Piotr Zielinski’s snooker-shot.
After the restart, Insigne struck again with a penalty and Matteo Politano completed the rout with a solo run.
Insigne’s first goal was all about placement and accuracy as he guided Andrea Petagna’s smart pass into the far corner following good work by Lozano in the fifth minute.
Petagna was involved in Napoli’s second as well as his inch perfect cross was met by the onrushing Diego Demma who swept past Bartlomiej Drgowski from point blank range.
Insigne then showed all of his quality and creative talent in the 38th minutes as he skilfully outwitted three Fiorentina players, Igor dos Santos, Sofyan Amrabat and Nikola Milenkovic before producing a magnificent cross field pass to the unmarked Lozano.
The long range pass was a thing of beauty as it took out the Fiorentina duo, German Pazella and Igor do Santos with the grateful Lozano left with the simple task of slotting past the badly exposed Drgowski.
Zieliński’s long ranger strike on the stroke of half time made it 4-0 before adding the Partenopei’s fifth in the 72nd minute through Insigne’s well-taken penalty after Tiemoue Bakayoko was upended in the box.
Politano added the sixth a minute before full time with a spectacular curling effort from outside the box.
