Nasarawa United striker Ohanachom sets 10-goal mark

Nasarawa United forward, Chinedu Ohanachom has said he is not pushing for the top scorer’s award in this season’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The former Heartland goal poacher has already scored six goals in eight matches upon joining the Solid Miners close to mid-term. Enugu Rangers’ striker, Israel Abia holds the bragging right with 12 goals.

The Nigerian elite league and other leagues are currently on indefinite suspension no thanks to the novel rampaging coronavirus pandemic.

Ohanachom said his greatest and personal target is to hit the 10-goal mark for the first time in the top-flight.

“I’m targeting 10 goals in the ongoing league season not the highest goal scorer’s award though I will grab it with both hands if I’m opportuned.

“The highest number of goals I have scored so far in the top-flight is about eight so I will love to surpass the mark.

“Already I have scored six goals in eight matches so when the league restarts that dream will be uppermost in my mind,” said the former El-Kanemi Warriors goal merchant.

Ohanachom is however optimistic that the Lafia-based top-flight side will avoid relegation in the ongoing season.

“Nasarawa United will not be relegated in the ongoing league season even though our position is not comfortable.

“Right now we have good and quality players and we are in perfect shape to compete very well for points.

“Every loose ends have been tightened and the new chairman is doing his very best to ensure we get good results in our matches,” said the former Enyimba marksman.

Ohanachom said he is doing his very best to keep in shape during this period of football inactivity.

“I try to do sit-ups and other routine physical exercise within my living room, it’s tough but we must do our best in the difficult period,” said Ohanachom.

Nasarawa United are 17th on the 20-team top-flight log on 29 points 20 behind league leaders, Plateau United.
