Nigeria Professional Football League match day 11 wrap: Kwara United stay top

Kwara United remained top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) standings despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Rangers International in Enugu on Sunday (February 21).

Chiamaka Madu scored the only goal of the game at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Rangers moved up to fourth on the standings.
The Flying Antelopes have now amassed 20 points from 11 matches while Kwara United’s 21 points keeps them top of the standings though second-place Enyimba, with two games in hand, have also amassed the same number of points.

Kano Pillars lost one-nil to Lobi Stars with Austin Ogunye netting the winner for the home side on five minutes at the Aper Aku Stadium, Markurdi. Despite the defeat, Sai Masu Gida stayed in third place and head coach Emmanuel Lionel Soccaoia was however less than impressed with the victors.
“The referee was poor and we should have won,” Lionel Emmanuel Soccoia said in a press conference monitored by SPNAfricaNews. “We were much better than them but officiating could have been better. Now, we must focus on our next game on Wednesday.”

At the Agege Stadium, Lagos, Najeem Adeyinka and Oladapo Ajayi both scored as MFM FC defeated Adamawa United at the Soccer Temple.

In Nnewi, Evans Obonda, Nonson Nzediegwu and Emmanuel Uchegbu all scored as FC Ifeanyiubah defeated Katsina United 3-0 at the FC Ifeanyiubah Stadium.

Faisal Ahmed was the hero for Jigawa Golden Stars in their 1-0 success against Nasarawa United while Sunshine Stars drew 1-1 with Heartland FC at the Akure Township Stadium.

Paschal Eze gave the Naze millionaires the lead just after the quarter-hour but the League’s top scorer Sadeeq Yusuf scored the equalizer for the home side with 19 minutes left on the clock. The forward has now netted eight goals this season.

The renaissance of Abia Warriors continues at pace as the Umuahia club defeated Warri Wolves 4-1 in Okigwe. Godwin Obaje scored twice for the home side worg Chukwuemeka Obioma and Paul Samson also making goalscoring contributors
Sunday Williams had given the visitors a shock lead on three minutes but it represented nothing more than scant consolation for the charges of Evans Ogenyi
