Nigeria’s Flying Eagles eliminated at U20 tourney

Nigeria’s U20 men’s team, Flying Eagles, have been eliminated from the WAFU B U20 tournament in Porto Novo, Benin Republic after Ghana beat Ivory Coast.

The Flying Eagles have now missed the chance to be at next year’s U20 AFCON in Mauritania. Their elimination was confirmed after Ivory Coast defeated Ghana 1-0 in Group B’s last fixture on Saturday (December 12).

The Nigerian campaigners needed Ghana to beat Ivory Coast by a wide margin to stand a chance of qualifying for the semifinals of the WAFU B qualifying test.

In their first game the Nigerian side played 1-1 with Ivory Coast before losing 0-1 to Ghana’s Black Satellites at the Stade Charles de Gaulles, Porto Novo.

After two rounds of games played by the three West African countries, Ivory Coast top the group on four points, Ghana came second on three points and Nigerian garnered paltry one point to finish third on the log.
