Nwakali inspires Huesca to Segunda title

Kelechi Nwakali has inspired Sociedad Deportiva Huesca, S.A.D to Spain’s second division (Spain La Liga Smartbank) title following a 1-0 win over Sporting Gijon on Monday night (July 20).

Cristo Gonzalez netted the only goal on 73 minutes as Huesca amassed maximum points at Estadio El Molinon. The win saw Huesca finish as champions of Spain’s second tier with 70 points from 42 matches.

Nwakali played all 90 minutes of the contest as Huesca kept yet another clean sheet in their final game of the season. Nwakali made five appearances for Huesca in the 2019/2020 season. Four of those appearances were as substitutes as he racked up 147 minutes for the newly-promoted side.

Nwakali spent the 2018/19 season at Porto II where he made 16 league appearances for the club. He had spent the three previous seasons prior to joining Porto II in the Netherlands with MVV Maastricht, on loan from Arsenal.

Nwakali joined Arsenal on August 30, 2017. He first came into prominence in 2015 when he helped Nigeria’s U17 team win the FIFA World Cup in Chile.
