NWFL derby win a triumph of ‘landladies’ over ‘pride of Lagos’, says Monday

FC Robo Queens striker, Gift Monday has said the acronyms of the top-flights made a huge difference in the outcome of the top-flight Lagos derby.

Robo Queens go with the acronym ‘Lagos landladies’ while their city rivals, Dreamstar Ladies go with the nickname ‘the pride of Lagos’.

The Lagos landladies outclassed the pride of Lagos with five unanswered goals in Wednesday’s Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) matchday 8 derby at the Legacy Pitch, National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

The Super Falcons lethal finisher contributed one of the goals that further nailed their challengers, Dreamstar Ladies.

Monday said her presence unlike the previous two matches she was away on national assignment was an instant boost to the morale of her teammates in the massive win against neighbours, Dreamstar Ladies.

“Well, talking about paying undue respect to us I do not know about it but I think they are the pride of Lagos and we are the landladies of Lagos so the difference is very clear in the outcome of today’s match.

“Yes, experience played a huge role in the match, I did bring in experience and exposure too, I tried my best and gave everything to the game.

“I think I’m also important to the team being the captain, all my teammates want that extra motivation from me.

“I think my vacuum in the past two matches while I was on national duty in Turkey was well covered and filled in today’s match.

“I feel happy and great, I had and came into the game with positive mind, I know we are going to win but the goal margin I did not know.

“Dreamstar Ladies were not soft, they were a good fight for us,” said Nigeria’s senior women team goal queen.

Monday said her side will not remove their legs on the throttle until they achieve the set goal in the on-going top-flight.

“We will keep improving on our games, we will keep winning more matches, just continuing to give our best.

“We are in the fight to qualify for the maiden women CAF Champions League, we will keep fighting until we achieve our goal,” said the lanky mask woman.

FC Robo Queens are fourth on the 14-team top-flight log on 15 points six behind league leaders, Bayelsa Queens.
