Dreamstar Ladies midfielder, Favour Kalu has admitted to the fact that it was not a dreamed derby for her side against city rivals, FC Robo Queens.
The Lagos side lost 0-5 to their sister challengers in Wednesday’s Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) matchday 8 Lagos derby at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
FC Robo Queens chalked up their goals through Esther Onyenezide, Gift Monday, Shade Ijamilusi, Rukayat Shobowale and Rahimot Adebayo.
Kalu said her side were overwhelmed by a much experienced side coupled with the fact that they were lacking in quality attackers and midfielders.
“For me I will say that our players are not that experienced like the FC Robo Queens’ players, the Robo players are business minded and we are not coupled with the fact that they have been in the league for years, we just came into the topflight about two seasons ago.
“In terms of experience they are more experienced than us and our attackers and midfielders lacked experience, we do not have attackers, we do not have midfielders, I’m very disappointed with the heavy defeat. Yes, the heaviest defeat we have suffered so far, this was not what we bargained for,” said Kalu who played as a centre back in the matchup.
Kalu however pleaded fervently that her side should not be written off yet in the ongoing top-flight.
“Yes, there is hope for us to climb out from the bottom and take our rightful position, we can still buckle and play well in our next match.
“Though our next opponents, Edo Queens are very tough and have been in the league for years, too, they are more experience than us, we can still go ahead to win the match.
“I’m not giving up on ourselves and I will not want others to give up on us, I cannot say for sure what the future holds for us, I still believe everything can change for good.
“I know that we will not be relegated even though the results of our seven, eight matches have not been good, I strongly believe something will change in our favour shortly,” said Kalu.
Dreamstar Ladies are still at the bottom of the 14-team top-flight log on poorly three points 18 behind league leaders, Bayelsa Queens.
