Sunshine Stars manager, Gbenga Ogunbote has gone on his knees to apologise to fans for the embarrassing home defeat to Kwara United.
The Owena Whales were humbled 1-2 by the Harmony Boys in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 9 clash at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.
A goal each by the llorin side duo, Adeshina Gata and Stephen Jude condemned the Akure side to their worst home defeat so far in the on-going top-flight and equally made mere academic Sadeeq Yusuf’s goal. Yusuf is the top-flight top scorer at the moment on seven goals.
Ogunbote who described the home loss as embarrassing promised to walk the side back to prominence.
“We are truly sorry for the embarrassing result, we did not bargain for it but it does happen in football.
“I know we will bounce back to reckoning, our new players are yet to gel properly with the entire team, in no distance time we will be able to get ourselves together.
“I just know for certain that we will still bounce back to take our pride of place on the league table.
“I want to see the loss for what it is – a temporary setback,” said the former Enyimba and Enugu Rangers tactician.
Ogunbote heaps encomium on the side’s top scorer, Sadeeq Yusuf for his knack and hunger for goal.
“I am happy for him but the team comes first. I am sure he is not happy with the result but I am happy for him.
“He is just doing the needful, he would have scored the second goal but unfortunately luck was not on his side.
“It’s a team work, the team feed him quality passes and he is making the best use of it,” said the former 3SC and Lobi Stars coach.
The loss leaves Sunshine Stars on the 11th position on the 20-team top-flight log on 13 points seven behind league leaders, Enyimba.
The Akure side next match will be at Wikki Tourists in Bauchi.
