Victor Osimhen made his official debut for Serie A club, SSC Napoli in the Partenopei’s 2-0 win over AC Parma on Sunday (September 20). The Nigerian marksman was overlooked from the start by the Napoli head coach, Gennaro Gattuso who opted to slowly ease in the former Lille marksman.
Osihmen eventually got the nod to join the fray in the 62nd minute as he took the place of Diego Demme. Two minutes after Osimhen was thrown into the fray, Napoli took the lead through Dries Mertens. Lorenzo Insigne made it 2-0 in the 77th minute as the Neapolitans won convincingly.
Osimhen looked lively after coming on with great movement off the ball and displaying intricate touches. One such touch in the 66th minute freed up Mertens whose 25-yard strike bamboozled the Parma goalkeeper, Luigi Sepe but the effort cannoned off the post.
Five minutes later, Osimhen had a chance to get on the scoresheet but placed a free header wide and he came even closer in the 80th minute with a fiercely-struck effort which fizzed inches wide. The Nigerian continued to prove his worth with a lively performance which came with some defensive duties which stood him in good stead to claim the man of the match performance.
