Ozil set for Fenerbahce switch

Former Germany international Mesut Ozil is set to join Turkish club, Fenerbahce, according to recent reports.

Ozil has been unsettled at Arsenal after seemingly falling out with manager Mikel Arteta. He was not registered as a squad member for Arsenal’s 2020/21 Premier League campaign, suggesting that his time at Arsenal had come to an end.

It is believed that the midfielder has now agreed to join Turkish side, Fenerbahce.

Ozil joined the Gunners from Real Madrid in 2013 and as a hugely creative attacking midfielder was a key contributor to the team’s successes – but has been out of Arteta’s plans since the Spanish manager took charge.

The door has been open for Ozil’s exit since last year and the German international has now agreed to make the move to Turkey, where he has strong links.

Reports in Turkey suggest it is a ‘dream move’ for the 32-year-old who is expected to join the 19-time Turkish league winners this month. It is believed that Ozil has agreed a three-and-a-half-year contract, which brings to an end his £350,000 per week deal at Arsenal.

Ozil, who had also been in talks with US side DC United, posted a throwback picture on Tuesday night on Twitter of him in Istanbul with the caption: ‘This city.’
