Some of the biggest Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clubs have converged in Port Harcourt for the 2020 edition of the Governor Wike Football pre-season football tournament.
Rivers United FC, Lobi Stars FC, Akwa United, and Plateau United are some of the clubs already in Port Harcourt for the competition.
Abia Warriors, MFM FC, Kwara United and Nasarawa FC complete the list of top tier clubs that will take part.
The tournament kicks off on Friday with Rivers United facing Lobi Stars in the opening game at the Sharks FC Stadium, Port Harcourt.
Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of the competition, Bashir Badawiy believes the tournament will help clubs prepare for domestic and continental competition.
“Two of the four clubs that will represent Nigeria in continental competition, Rivers United and Plateau United are in Port Harcourt for this tournament,” Badawiy told SPNAfricaNews.
“This tournament will help them ascertain their readiness for the rigours ahead.
“Also, the other clubs will use this tournament to prepare for their domestic competitions,” he concluded
