Schalke players return to training

German club, Schalke 04 resumed training on Thursday despite the suspension of the Bundesliga and the current global coronavirus pandemic.

The Gelsenkirchen made the rather shocking decision to return to training with a view to keeping up social distancing protocols whilst the session lasted.
In the video shot at their training ground, players were seen working on their fitness.
They keep separate at a safe distance as they trained in pairs.

The rules set by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (where Schalke are based) do not allow for training in large groups, so coach David Wagner teamed his players up in doubles to jog and dribble as they look to stay fit and retain their sharpness amidst the coronavirus crisis.

The Schalke players went through fitness and ball control work, doing what they could while maintaining a two-metre distance.

Last week, the club arranged video calls to be held as players were allowed to complete their exercises at home while seeing each other during training.

The Bundesliga has been until April 30.
