Seven points separate top 13 sides in NPFL

Only seven points seperate the top 13 sides in this season’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Four clubs, Nasarawa United, Keara United, Kano Pillars and Enugu Rangers are all joint top of the standings on 27 points with only goals difference separating them in what is shaping up to be one of the tightest title races in recent history.
Three games were decided on Thursday and it did little to seperate the sides at the top rungs of the table.

Rangers International who were top of the standings before the start of Thursday’s games lost 2-0 to Katsina United and dropped three places. Such is the competitive nature of this season’s title race.

Katsina’s goals at the Mohammadu Dikko Stadium were scored by Rasheed Ahmed and Joseph Atule as the Flying Antelopes were left with the short end of the stick. Nasarawa United have meanwhile moved to the top of the standings after making light work of Dakkada FC at the Lafia City Stadium.

The Solid Miners looked imperious as they completed a routine 3-0 victory over the Uyo club. Abdullahi Aliya netted the opening goal for the Lafia club with Silas Nwankwo netting a brace to complete a comprehensive win for the hosts.

Plateau United moved to the top half of the table after a strong start guaranteed a 3-1 success over Sunshine Stars in Jos.
Oche Ochowechi’s fine finish opened the scoring for Plateau United on seven minutes with Ibrahim Mustapha doubling the hosts’ lead just before the half hour. Uche Onwuasonaya netted a third for United with nine minutes to the end of a rip roaring first-half while  Kehinde Adeyemi plundered the visitors’ consolation in the second half.
