Sunshine chasing history as Champions League representatives, says Wemimo

Sunshine Queens head coach, Matthew Wemimo has said her side want to make history as the first to win NWFL Premiership Super 6 title same debuting year for the CAF Women Champions League.

The Owena Mermaids have amassed four points so far after two matches at the on-going NWFL Premiership Super 6 in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state a draw with former champions, Bayelsa Queens and a win against Edo Queens.

Wemimo said her side are determined to grind good results in the remaining three matches on the Super 6 calendar aimed at making their dream a reality.

“Of course, people should still expect far better performances in our remaining matches at the tournament.

“Our sole aim coming to the Super 6 is to create record as winners for the first time that Champions League for the women will be played on the continent.

“If we make the mark as number one at the end of the NWFL Premiership Super 6 it will be a great achievement.

“It will be historical, too for us to win the league top prize for the first time in our existence, that’s our main target.

“So far so good, we are not yet resting on our oars but pushing harder with the other matches.

“We have Delta Queens to contend with tomorrow (Thursday) we are working hard to ensure the outcome favours us,” said the Nigerian coach to SPNAfricaNews.

The Akure landladies are second on the six-team NWFL Super 6 log on four points same as leaders, FC Robo Queens.

The NWFL Premiership Super 6 will decide the champions as well as the WAFU B qualifiers for the maiden CAF Women Champions League later in the year in Morocco.
