Akwa United forward, Mfon Udoh is prayerful that the ongoing 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season will end on the pitch unlike the immediate past season that ended abruptly due to coronavirus pandemic.
The former NPFL goal king scored the consolation for his side in the 1-2 loss at Heartland in Sunday’s NPFL matchday 6 clash in Owerri.
Udoh said it’s not the best of time for teams to play the league behind closed doors no thanks to the rampaging flu-like coronavirus.
“The 2020/2021 season is a sad one though playing behind closed doors due to COVID-19 which has claimed lot of lives.
“However, this game is what we love to do most, it’s our job we cannot just stop playing but continue to fight no matter what is on ground.
“I believe 2020/2021 season will be a successful one and by God’s special grace I pray we will play the game on the pitch till the end of the season,” said the former American USL Championship side, FC Tusla.
Udoh was somehow inconsolable scoring the match opener at Heartland for it to count as nothing at the end of the day.
“We played a good game here in Owerri against Heartland, I just hope the officials will open the game, make it 50/50 so that the better side win the game.
“I remember quite well that we scored a goal at home and it was disallowed, so it could still be disallowed elsewhere if a team did not score.
“We just had a painful loss right here to Heartland, we cannot repeat it the second time, we will avoid it.
“My goal meant nothing at the end of the day, it does not make me happy at all,” said the former Enyimba marksman.
The Promise Keepers are 14th on the 20-team top-flight log on six points eight behind league leaders, Nasarawa United.
The Uyo side will welcome Kano Pillars to their fortress in Uyo at the weekend for NPFL matchday 7 clash.
