Van Der Sar says United need more signings to hit top level. Could one be Kane?

Former Manchester United goalkeeper, Edwin van der Sar has declared that the Red Devils need two or three more signings to return to their usual level and compete regularly for silverware.

Liverpool and Manchester City have become the pacesetters in England but the Dutch goalkeeping great believes a few more reinforcements will see United return to the levels of their storied past.

The 49-year-old Dutchman is currently CEO of Ajax Amsterdam and has dramatically transformed their fortunes in the last few years. He also believes Manchester United are on the right path under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“The honeymoon period (for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer) was great,” Van der Sar told CNN.

“Then they hit a rocky patch and I think the last seven, eight, nine weeks, they’ve been playing better football.
“Of course, for them, I hope that the league is going to resume because they probably will need those Champions League places.
“I think the main thing for them is to focus on the next season and, hopefully with two or three additions, they’ll be competitive again to Liverpool and Manchester City.”

On the same issue of new signings, another former United star, Paul Ince, has addressed speculation United could – or should – make a move for Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane.

Ince says United would be ‘daft’ not to pursue a move for the England striker.

“Don’t get me wrong, if, and it’s a big if, United can get Kane, and he fancies the move, surely you’re going to go for him. You’d be absolutely daft not to,” Ince told Paddy Power News.

“Spurs fans won’t like to hear me say this, either, but sometimes as a player you simply need a new challenge.
“You’re taking a completely complete, proven player. He’s only going to get better and better. He’s a guarantee.”
