Sunshine Queens head coach, Matthew Wemimo has described as cup final the end of the term and Super 6 decider against former champions, Nasarawa Amazons.
The Owena Mermaids are host of the Lafia side in Wednesday’s Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) matchday 13 clash at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.
Aside the three points at stake there is a ticket for Super 6 to play for following the league body’s decision to alter the league calendar to accommodate CAF programme for the maiden CAF Women’s Champions League.
Wemimo said her side will surely claim the whole points at stake and chance picking the remaining spot for the NWFL Super 6 already earned by the top five teams, Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens, Rivers Angels, Edo Queens and FC Robo Queens.
“Definitely, tomorrow’s (Wednesday) game is like a Cup final, it is like playing a World Cup final, that’s the match that will decide whether we will qualify for the Super 6 or not.
“We want to face squarely our own match and think less what happen elsewhere, we want to do our own bit perfectly well and if it turns out to be good enough to earn us the ticket that would be lovely.
“We are coming all out to play the game, our aim and plan is to win and get the three points at stake.
“That’s the most important thing for us at the moment, we are playing on our ground and we are winning.
“That’s our entire programme on matchday – winning and if we become the winners and make the Super 6 glory be to God if not we will take it in good faith,” said the Nigerian U20 team (Falconets) assistant coach to SPNAfricaNews.
The Akure side and the opponents, Nasarawa Amazons need outright win in the encounter to chance a ticket hoping that the other contenders, Confluence Queens will falter in Lagos against Dreamstar Ladies.
Six top teams will qualify for the Super 6 at the end of the first stanza to decide the champions who will represent the country at the maiden Caf Women’s Champions League while the other eight teams will engage in a play-off to decide the two to be relegated to the lower league.
